We had a story party today! A visitor from Seven Stories came to tell us some stories all about eggs.

The children really enjoyed the stories, particularly the story about the cow that laid an egg!!! Just look at how eager they were to hear the end...

ROARRRRRRR!!!!

What a lucky bunch we are. Yesterday we had a visit from a palaeontologist. Dinosaur Mike came to our school to tell us about fossils. We also learnt just how big dinosaurs were. Did you know that some dinosaurs were so small they could fit into the palm of your hand? Take a look at what we found out...

This is a fossil. We learnt that real fossils came from things that used to be alive. You can tell if a fossil is real because it
should feel very cold and heavy.

This is our class Palaeontologist! He knows all about dinosaurs. He is holding the fossil of a jaw bone
from a triceratops. Just look at the holes where his teeth would have been!!!

This is the rib cage from a triceratops. Dinosaur Mike told us that two children could fit inside the stomach of a triceratops and that if they held their arms out really wide they would not touch the sides of the triceratops tummy!!!!

This was perhaps the scariest fossil - a tooth from a T - Rex. We learnt that our teeth are actually the sharper than the teeth of T-Rex. T-Rex were meat eaters and we call these carnivores.

We had such fun - on Friday we are going to write our own reports all about fossils.

What a week! Finding dinosaur eggs inspired so much work last week. We played dinosaur maths games involving addition, made up dinosaur stories in our sand play and made our very own Dinosaur book. Take a look at the writing the children completed for the book - what a clever bunch! Next week we have a palaeontologist coming to visit! We are very excited. Our blog word of the week next week will be Fossils.

Look what we found in our school grounds today!

Dinosaur eggs!!!! The children have been buzzing with ideas of  how the eggs arrived here. Some children have informed me that the mummy dinosaur has gone on holiday, others were anxious that the mammy and daddy dinosaur might come back to our school to get the eggs! One little girl asked me how they could be dinosaur eggs since the dinosaurs aren't alive any more - very clever!!! We discussed different options (even the possibility that they could be ostrich eggs) and decided that they are dinosaur eggs that were hidden in the ground and have come to the surface. We wrote about which dinosaur we thought could be in the eggs and on Friday we are going to make a class book about all the different dinosaurs.

Today was a very special day for our school. We had a visit from Neil Griffiths! Neil is a children's author and the creator of the award-winning Storysack®. The whole school went into the hall to hear Neil read some of his favourite books. My favourite was Itchy Bear. I have supplied a link to Neil's website below (Click on A Corner To Learn).  Here you can see video footage of him in action as well as order his books. We had a wonderful day and I can't wait to share some stories with the children tomorrow!!!

The picture above may give you a little clue as to something exciting that is going to happen mid week next week.... Our new blog word of the week will be dinosaur.

A quick thank you to all who donated to our junk modelling resources. They will be put to good use next week!
